Immigration, Banking and Coffee

Immigration woes. Blues, whatever. I just sent off my current Mexican visa, my American passport and a whole stack of papers and letters to begin the final steps toward residency here in good ol' Mexico. It's gonna cost me about 1800 bucks over two years. Then I have a decision to make. Continue to fork over 600 bucks/year  for two more years for residency status or pay 600 and take a test become a naturalized citizen of the United States of Mexico. I've been reassured that my country will NEVER revoke my American citizenship as a result. I'm up for it. Lots of perks and privileges that non-immigratns cannot enjoy. I have all the time I need to decide.

My inner struggle is this: Beginning this process is a declaration that I plan to be here another five years, at least. Inwardly, sometimes I think I'm tired of being here. Only sometimes, though. Oh well, it's only money and we can always make more can't we? Now I sound like a Democrat politician. I digress.

My bank in Oklahoma called us a few weeks ago to inform us that they were closing out our account due to the reimbursement of the 1,500 dollars that were stolen using a cloned debit card. Phooey on them. I'll close my other account with them and move my 1,000 dollar balance to another bank. LOL They aren't crying over losing a 1,000 balance. That's pocket change for them.

We've already got the new account set up and new debit cards made. After 18 years with the same bank, I thought maybe I had some clout at the other place. The poor girl who had to break the news to me sounded very sorry about it. She knows what we do down here. I cannot blame the bank for wanting to protect themselves from the possibility of future incidents. I might have done the same thing.

I'm having coffee this evening with a friend. We don't do that much anymore since we both got married. It'll be our very own Coffee Party. Mexico style.

Additionally, I'm impressed with the Coffee Party people. They seem to be articulate, informed and involved. They also seem to be steering clear of any out and out statement of their collective political positions. Unfortunately, the Tea Party people seem to have gone off the deep end in some respects. Although I agree with some of the positions they hold, I cannot see myself doing some of the crazy things SOME of them have done in recent days. Again, I digress.

We're not all drooling buffoons.
