Cuba Day 1

What a ride! Limited connection, post more later.
Our adventures included a 3 hour ride in a 1949 Ford in relatively good condition! Wish I could post a pic, but that will have to wait. Wonderful people and such a beautiful country.

We also got used to riding around in Russia made vehicles like the Lada and the Mochbuy. Tiny little rattletraps barely holding up.

The car bit is interesting, I'm wondering if Cuba solved part of its difficulty in getting cars by getting really good at maintaining old cars. I guess on many islands, it's a problem. It was in Aruba. A sale of a house would often include the car.

They are masters at maintaining them AND at improvisation. One could start a business buying parts in the US and selling them in Cuba.

In the 1950s/60s I lived in Miami Beach and--before Castro--my partner and I would go to visit his parents--they lived/owned a cigar plantation 2 miles outside of Havana--for a couple of days each month--the city was 'crazy fun' in those days.
I see pictures today of places we use to go to and the buildings are crumbling!
PS Castro took their plantation and the parents had to be 'smuggled' to Miami Beach via Mexico.

Martin, you've answered a question I've had. I wondered what happened to all the private property during the "beloved" revolution.
