Thank you nittineedles and troutbend for the blocking suggestions. I'm off to Victoria today and will look in Wal-mart and hardware stores there.
So glad to hear that you are feeling better. Can you give me blocking advice? I finally finished my knit vest and I'm not sure of the best way to block it into its correct shape. How do you use your guest bed to do that? I though a piece of plywood might work but before I go out and buy a piece (husband always burns up the leftover pieces) I thought I'd seek your advice. You got the late night gene and I got the early morning one. I've been up since 5 a.m. when Tartan decided to barf right next to my side of the bed. Yuck! Guess who's job it is to clean it up?
We all go through those "everything sucks" periods and hope they won't last too long. I hope yours is over very soon. Being sick does suck but turning 60 doesn't have to be so bad. I know. I think we all need a shot of good spring weather with sunshine to help cheer us up.
My husband also pulls a disappearing act whenever I'm sick, although for some reason he thinks I should be at his beck and call whenever he feels poorly. Hummmmm!
I think I would find it challenging to knit even a dish cloth with this level of detail. You can sure do some amazing pieces.
We just returned from the City and I always find it funny that we walk more while we are there than here on the island. We usually park the car in the underground parking lot when we arrive downtown and then don't use it again until we leave. I've also be on a fitness kick lately and besides walking have got back into aquafit and yoga. I wish I could still throw in a little running but the knees won't take the hills any more. Keep up the walking after you recover from your flu.
Nice bags and the button is perfect. Don't you love the Buttonlady's huge selection? I've been working on the trim around the edges of my vest, so I may be done during this millenium. Kari's nephew's wife is expecting her fourth (another boy), so I might try a baby outfit as my next project. She isn't a knitter but I think she's appreciate something hand-done.
I had a flu shot before we went to SE Asia. There always seem to be so many bugs floating around inside the airplane and I didn't want to be sick during my vacation But I got an awful cold anyway (sore throat that lasted for days and then the runny nose, etc.). I hope you recover quickly and, as Mum said, you are able to enjoy your birthday dinner.
WOW!!!!!!
A woman in my knitting group is on a special (Macrobiotic I think) diet and can't eat any night shade vegetables, among other things. She always brings her own food for our potluck lunches and contributes something healthy as well. Last time, I almost broke my front teeth on her svelt (sp?) cookies.
I also have a nice dream catcher that hangs just inside the door. It was a gift from you many years ago. I have a favourite pair of hand knit socks that become my bed socks whenever husband is away for the night. They keep my feet warm and cozy.
I found that I do have a recipe for panagelti (that's how its spelled on the recipe card). I also have Mum's recipes for chili, mac and cheese, singing hinnies and triffle. I always enjoyed her "comfort foods" meals best. I also liked the roast beef with yorkshire pudding but I never make that for us. You should ask the girls what the liked best. Men often aren't as discerning. I spray my pyrex as well but some are OLD (45+ years), so maybe they stick more over time.
Your celebratory dinner sound like it was great and I bet it was more enjoyable without the additional people who'd have been there on Valentine's Day. We didn't celebrate V Day because hubby had a photo club meeting to attend (although they did have a little party after the meeting). Instead, we had a delicious Italian dinner while we were in Vancouver this weekend. Yum!
Thanks for the recipe. I don't have this one, although Mum's mac and cheese is used regularly. Mum made panagalty (I think we are all spelling this wrong) once when we visited and it was a hit with the hubby. I agree that the only problem with these dishes is cleaning up the pyrex after they've been reheated.
