Hither and Yawn

Good Friday, Blog Pals:

Well, guess what? It's snowing here again in Cow Snot. We have yet another foot or so of the damn stuff and I am about to hang myself. Everyone assures me that Spring will come and that this is most unusual. Right.
So, with all this inclement weather, I've had a chance to catch up on some reading. I polished off two books that I'd been meaning to read. I finally, finally, Haleluja, finished reading James Joyce's "Ulysess". Actually, I had to resort to using a book on tape as I just couldn't handle the text version. For the life of me I cannot see where this rambling, nonsensical tome is one of the greatest books of the 20th century. True, some of the passages paint very vivid word pictures but I still don't get it. Mostly, the book concerns these guys running around Dublin visiting bars, whorehouses and attending funerals. Now I'm no prude, God knows, but the Bloom character has got to be the biggest perv in the universe. And his wife and daughter are little better. A number of passages describe all manner of sexual antics that are just gross. And this is a great work of classic literature? I just don't get it. I've read a number of reviews of the work and they all sing high praises. Am I some sort of classless, tasteless, illiterate, uncultured clod? What did I miss here?
My second book was "Big Russ and Me" by the late Tim Russert. I found this book most enjoyable. Couldn't put it down. Big Russ is a lot like my own dad in many ways and as I read this I could hear my dad saying a lot of the things Big Russ said, enparting or trying to empart the same bits of wisdom. It was deeply moving and gave a glimpse into the working class life of my generation. It is a wonderful book and a loving tribute from a son to a father. As I read this, I couldn't help but wonder how Big Russ is handling Tim's untimely death.

Well, on the family front, reports from the daycare about Jethro's behavior are much better. He's really shaping up and we're all thrilled. It was rough sledding for awhile for the little guy but he has really improved. And his potty training is really coming along. Last week he actually asked to go to the potty for "Number Two" and was sucessful. He's making real progress.

And finally, on a lighter note. In my continuing quest for political office, I embedded a couple of operatives in the presidential party during President Jug Ear's recent European junket. One of the stops for the President and Mrs. Obama was a vist with HRH Queen Elizabeth II of England. Here's a bit of the conversation that went on out of earshot while the photo ops were being shot.

Ah well.....

Have a good weekend, everyone
