Understanding War

I don''t understand the suicide after they return home?!Wish there was a better understanding so there would be help without the hassle of looking weak!Is it a strong mind,a weak mind?Last yr a friend of the family for many yrs shot himself around 2-3 months home from afghanistan,But i constantly think of him and think of him when I read,or see on news another suicide,or murder suicide..He was a special forces,He was in vietnam, and this war made him take his life. This scares the Hell out of me because my husband has been over there for more than a yr.on the road constantly.so what am i to expect,I wonder if i could do this to make things better,or not do that confused. As of lately he has gone from nice to really hateful,He says its just the heat.Advice would be nice.for i''m at a lose....

If you remember, you left a post on my blog when I talked about how the horrors of war changes people forever. The suicide rates are so heartbreaking - and they don't even count them into the casuality lists of those killed in Iraq. It seems like when some of our soldiers return back to "normal" society, some just can't cope. It might be the toll of seeing destruction every day, or seeing dead mothers and children - there's too many factors to pin it down to one thing that can be treated. As for your husband - patience, patience, patience, love, love, love. The transition will be very hard - with love and support, he might make it. If you're religious, pray for God to help you through this and for Him to soothe your husband's soul when he returns. I know I will be praying every day for this and also praying for Him to give YOU the strength you'll need to support your husband. It's not an easy task - you'll have to start relearning how to live together again. Best of luck - hang in there.
