Home Again, Home Again ...

We've made it home safe and sound...and had a great time.  I'm tired...got a wicked sun burn and I'm dreading Monday. LOL
If you love to shop...well let me tell you, you would love the Unclaimed Baggage Store in Scotsboro.   My God...it boggles my mind that folks leave this stuff in their luggage and don't claim it.
Bring your good walking shoes, and a good since of direction...because trust me this place is in the middle of nowhere.   The only thing I could tell about the little town it's in...is it must be where all sorts of crap goes to live...there are at least 5 or 6 of these little unclaimed stores all over the place.
We did get some great deals, if you love jewerly...you would be in hog heaven, I don't think I've seen as much of it in one place.   Every kind of watch, ring, necklace, and many really unique.    We bought several pieces of jewerly that looks like tiny statues enclosed in glass...very bubba looking.   I don't know where it's from but I've not ever seen anything like it before.   Were going to do some research on the internet and see if we can find out more about it.
At the jewerly counter there was one case that had things that weren't for sale....one ring that had the biggest diamond I had ever seen....said it was valued at $25, 000.00 dollars...and a flower pendant that was gorgeous...it was at least 4 inches high, and 3 inches wide...looked sorta like a sunflower and was full of diamonds...it was beautiful.   Not sure how much it was worth...I didn't notice.
Cameras...it was wild...any kind of camera you could think of just thrown together on a shelf in the corner...some were in cases I'm assuming those are the one with all their accessories.   Video cameras, ipods, stereo's..(still can't figure out why anyone would fly with stereo's and such).
I really hate shopping but was amazed just walking around and seeing all the merchadise..  I love the museum....it housed some of the most unusual stuff they have found....
Stuff like
The oldest Typewritter I"ve ever seen...
Full Suit of Armour (I wonder where the hell this guy was going with it)
A saddle dating back to the 1800's...it was really cool looking..
I took a break at their cafe and meets folks from Ohio, Washington State....and One guy from Holland.    It was an interesting day...
We stayed in Huntsville and I'm greatful we did...the hotels in Scotsboro didn't get very good reviews from visitors, and after seeing a few of them, I  can see why.
The Hampton Inn in Hunstville was fantastic.   Large quiet rooms, very clean...nice beds and the linens were great.   We had a recliner in the room, a fridge and microwave...and a large jacuzzi bathtub that got used right away...*grins*
They also had a jacuzzi at the pool area too, which I thought was a nice touch.   The evening we got there we used the pool, it was clean and really nice.  After the first day the kids took it over so we used the jacuzzi in the room.
We got home this afternoon, on the way home (we took the long way home...see more sites that way..)   between the border of Alabama and TN, we noticed on the side of the road these little signs  saying BBQ with little flags around it, it sounded good...so we decided when we found it we would stop.   When we actually found it...it was a little elderly black man sitting on a lawn chair by a big grill in his front yard.   We stopped...he pulled up a couple of lawn chairs and had us sit with him while he got our BBQ.   His wife came out and offered us some Ice Tea...I loved it.    We didn't stay long...but it was one of the best stops we made on this little mini vacation.   Best BBQ I've eaten in awhile.
I would write more, but this is turning into a book...so I'll write more later...Happy Saturday everybody...

I love the sound of every part of your trip. The unclaimed luggage "adventure" would have my eyes popping out! And, that BBQ stop, now wasn't that a special treat? That's a real touch of America, isn't it? Great vacation, elfie!

Great vacation. (Monday is almost over, the work-day part anyway)

Sounds like an awesome vacation!! That's totally unbelievable the stuff people would not bother to claim. Weird... How long does stuff sit in the airport before it gets sent off to this Unclaimed No-man's Land?

wow that sounds AMAZING!!!
So people really don't claim their baggage? I am thinking perhaps the airlines told em it was lost... weird!

YOur vacation sounded very unique. I would never have thought of visiting a shop that sold unclaimed luggage items. I love jewelry... so that would have been lots of fun for me. I'm not walking far these days, so you would have to push me in a wheel chair.

I'm glad you are home safely. The barbecue sounded very nice. Fun to meet people from all walks of life.

Glad to hear about your holiday! Sounds like a great time, and what a shopping bonanza of stuff! Now if only someone could explain why the airlines lose the luggage in the first place.... Oh well, now that the airlines charge to check luggage, they'll be getting fewer bags to lose.
Welcome home!
