Binkys and Thumbsucking

I know I'm going to sound like a complete jerk but I think that parents that allow their toddlers and older to suck on a binky (pacifier) or their thumb should be slapped. Grandparents too. I can understand infants needing the binky. Keeps them from suckling a bottle 24/7. But a toddler? Give me a break. First of all, binky and thumbsucking causes the kid to have an over bite. That means a future orthodontist bill. Second, it looks stupid. Toddlers are smarter than they want us to know and when they suck a binky or their thumb it makes them look like they have limited mental capacity. A toddler sucking on a bottle is worse. They are old enough for a sippy cup. The worst thing I ever saw was a toddler breast feeding. WTF. PD and I were on a flight from Honolulu to Kona. The toddler was throwing a fit and the mom just lifts up her shirt and the kid grabs a ta ta and starts sucking on it. After a few minutes the kid switched tits. Did I watch? I couldn't help it. It was right there. It was that or stare out the window with PD(btw...I'm deathy afraid of heights.) My point is please slowly direct your children toward more mature things. Binkys are for babies. Thumb sucking is for babies. Neither is good for toddlers.

Hmmm
Think of other cultures where kids breastfeed until they are 4 or 5...
Be glad ya don't live there.

I think it is a bit easier to take the binky away than the thumb. Our son sucked his thumb but once he started preschool when he was 3 1/2 years old it became less and less. Mainly got to where he only did this at night when going to sleep or real tired. He finally just stopped on his own. The more you would try to get him not to the more he wanted to. And yes he did have to wear braces later on but, the orthodonist and dentist both told us that it was something he was born with and he would have had to wear braces either way.
