A Great Week So Far

I anticipated a less than great week when plans for my small birthday party gathering had to be cancelled due to a snowstorm and a day-long parking ban. My parents, Edie's brother and sister-in-law, Edie's nephews, and possibly our friend Debbie were to join us on Sunday afternoon for a late lunch and, of course, cake and ice cream. We already knew about the unlikelihood of Edie's brother and one nephew's attendance due to illness, but the storm and parking ban put an end to all plans. Yet, the week has been great so far.

It soon was decided that the party would be postponed to next Sunday, so I still have a party to look forward to. The next thing was Martin Luther King (Jr's) Day, which is an observance I strongly believe in and am now even more enthusiastic about since Obama has suggested it not be a day "off" but a day "on" so that constructive things can be done, which is a more fitting way to honor Dr. King. That same day was actually my birthday, so I had a bit of a celebration going on in my head as I entertained the thought of becoming 29 years old.......again!

The next day was Obama's inauguration and that, so far, has been the highlight of my week. Not only did I enjoy the coverage, but I was inspired by all that I saw and heard. I can't think of a better way that I could have ended the whole viewing and feeling experience than the way I chose to end it by watching the inauguration parade. There was just so much talent and diversity in that parade that it filled me with even more pride and optimism.

Then, yesterday, which was Wednesday, Edie and I got our tickets for A Chorus Line, which will start it's run here in Providence at the end of March. We have fairly good orchestra seats for the opening night's performance. Today has been quiet, but my cousin Laurie will be swinging by for a brief visit tonight on her way to another engagement she must attend. It will be nice to have some company, even if it's only for a short time.

Like I said, the week has been great so far. And, with Edie on vacation from work so that she's been home with me, it really has been great. There are a few more days to go before the week is over and my postponed party to look forward to, too, so I have a feeling the whole week could end up being a great one.
