Well we got there early. 6am maybe.
When we got there. Our spot was "horrible". No way I would set up there, Paul neither.
So I got to talking to the promoter. Paul is a better talker then me.. but sometimes I gotta take over.
I explained.. we do this for a living. Really won't work for us being back in a corner. Is there anyway we can get a better spot. Paul was talking too. This one however, I did most talking.
She decided to move us up in a better spot. Paul was all for that. I looked at it.. looked at the traffic flow. No, it was a better spot, but I didn't want to be there either. I suggested a few others. The main thing I noticed.. and this was the head of the "Chamber of Commerce".. "Is there anyway We can set up in "front of you".. perfect location for us (anyone really). She let us do that. Plus she let us spread out as much as we wanted. We had the top spot in the festival. Right in front, they seen us coming and going.
I think she thought we were "asses" at first. But after we set up the entire day, we sure had an IN. If we do this again (probably will), we have our pick of spaces. We were set up right next to the "Chamber of Commerce". At first, many of them didn't want us there. After awhile all were happy we were. I have to say, Paul and I together are the "Biggest" attraction any event we do. We get perks.
We both went there broke. First thing the promoter said was "you didn't pay yet". Paul thinks quick. He said.. let us get this all set up and situated. We'll pay you. They didn't know we were broke. Came to collect later after we made money.
We didn't make tons of money. Not near what I thought when I posted the other blog. Some things went "super cool though.
To me, just another show. Here is what I liked about it. Mid-day, this "master illusionist" had someone come bye. He needed someone that smoked cigarettes for an illusion. It was an illusion about putting a cigarette through a coin. He grabbed me to do this.
Being a "coincutter", I know all about "trick coins". I know how they are "made", I get asked "often" to make them for magicians. I was watching "Very Close".
I can "honestly say".. this fucker was GOOD! I know for a fact, what he did was replace the "half dollar", with a trick one. But neither did I see the "cuts in the coin". Sure he showed me the coin before, wouldn't after the trick. i asked.. he said simply.. you already seen it. He didn't know I am a "master coincutter". I got all that. What I didn't see was the "illusion" totally. How he switched the coins. I tell you.. "This man is Awesome"!
He is a "master illusionist". Travels the entrie country. His name is: "Tom Coverly". He is known as the "Christian version" of David Blain. He is on TV, he has magic kits he sells (all professional). Videos.. all that. He is a "Pro for sure".
So we talked for a few hours. Guess what.. this dude may want to "travel" with us. I see stuff like this always. He is as good (if not better) then David Blain. How cool would that be? Do you know how BIG an attraction that would be for us? We'll have to see how it turns out.. but he is ready to go. Every show he does, hundreds turn out to watch.
Other then that. Yeah, we met all the "bar owners" in town. We met all the "Chamber of commerce". Like everyone. Promised a "prime location" next year. Paul and I work together "great actually". I can't wait to see "Next year". So many plans, so many idea's.
We had about 4 choices after the show. Stay.. do the next day. Only going from 1-4 PM. We decided against. Paul wanted to do "Armada". Near Detroit. I never make much there, and ends early. I said "If you want to do that, go for it". I won't show.
We wanted to set up on the "Race Track". Got too late to really set up. So we decided against. We were gonna go just to "watch", decided against that too.
I always have choices of shows to do. Think, I'll blow them off. Do nothing Sunday. Reason, I won't make much. We can survive on what I made this week. Maybe I'll do the "Flint Market". I'll decide when Roxann comes home from the class reunion. My thinking now.. I'll stay home.
Nowhere near what I expected to make. Still made money. No clue where I will be next week.
Had a "fun time" tho...
Gary :)
Anyway, we got to talking.
