A Journey Into My Life

Life & Events > Incredible (Read This Blog).

Incredible (Read This Blog).

In my 24 years of doing shows, I just did one of the "Best shows" of my entire life. Sales wise, no it wasn't the top. No where near it (we did make alot of money tho). But overall, with the connections we made, and everything that happened. I'd put it top. So here's how my day went.

We set up at this show put on my the "Race Track", and the top "Country Music station". We got there like 7am. It was supposed to last till 2pm. I did a little. Not many people there. Paul didn't do much (remember, we partnered together). Much of the day, we were talking to the "Radio Station" people. This was our "first" in. After hanging with them awhile. We learned the top 12 radio stations around (Rock, Country, and others) were all affiliated. So we got an "IN" to do those events.

Around 1pm, they started clearing out the vendors. They wanted the vendors out at "2pm" because the "Race cars" would be coming in. I thought, what if we could stay? Maybe move the booths beside the "race track". We could get the traffic coming in, and out of the track. Probably make alot of sales. So we waited to ask. We wanted the track owners to see the situation before we asked.

This is where the day starts to become cool...

So we met the owners of the "Race Track". This is a huge track, and many popular drivers. Paul started the coonversation with them. He's good at that. He asked if we could move up and stay.

They loved our stuff!! They were so happy to have us there. They not only said we could "stay", but said "we can put you guys inside the track". So Paul took off with the "race track owner" to see where we could be inside.

Paul comes back.. and says to me. "Gary!! You won't believe this!!! Come to the track, and see where we will be. I did.

OMG!! They set us up in the "Grandstand". Under the bleachers. Right by the "ticket" booth (where thousands and thousands enter), 10 feet across from the "food concessions" (Where thousands get their food. 40 feet from the beer tents, about 30 feet from all the "Rock bands" playing. It was "positively" one of the most "prime" locations I ever had. Plus, we could watch the races 10 feet from where we were. I walked 10 feet from my booth, and we were right near a "turn", and I have to say it was scary. 5 feet from that, all these sliding "Stock cars" looked like they were about to run into us. All professional drivers and cars. Of course they had "protection stuff like at NASCAR", still kinda scary. PERFECT PERFECT location!!!

Wait, it gets better. First of all.. they didn't charge us. We paid the $20 entry fee to be on the outside in the morning ($10 each). Charged nothing to move inside. Nothing to see all the events inside.

Better yet! They loved us so much. They said we could set up at the race track "ANYTIME" we wanted. It's only 25 minutes from me. The track owners said, "we love you guys here, you bring something different. Come whenever you want. We won't charge you much.

There were ONLY "3 vendors" inside. Me, Paul.. and some little girls they knew with a tiny "face painting" booth. OMG again. This is a HUGE thing for us. We now have a "total in", on one of the best "race tracks" in Michigan. We can go whenever we want. We get a prime location. And, they won't charge us chit to do it. Plus, we see the races (free), see the bands (free) all from our booth. No other vendors. Incredible.. that's all I can say!!! God blessed us this weekend.

The minute we set up inside. I'd say we were in at 3pm fully set up. Stayed till after midnight. I had orders "Non-stop". I sold to the "flag men" (whatever ya call them, the ones waving the green or yellow flags". I sold to the bands. I sold to all the security guards there. I sold to many "drivers". The same ones that were down in the pits signing autographs. My only regret, I was working so hard. Although I could see the races from my booth. I was so fucking busy", I missed 90% of that.

Gets even better yet!! The owners came up to us. Tomorrow there is a "Biker event" on their grounds. They don't put it on, rent it to the "Bikers". Plus there is a "motocross track there". They called the "Bikers, to see if we could set up with them in the morning". Yep it's a GO! Tomorrow, I will see the "motocross races", and be set up with "Bikers" For cheap!!

This is such an "IN" you just don't know. Neither of us went in with much "stock" and yet we couldn't keep up. Imagine if we had "full stock". And now we can do this whenever we want. 25 minutes from me, 1.5 hours from him. Yet, at any distance this is "Awesome"!!

GREAT TIME TOO!!! Can't beat working like this. This time, I am glad I missed "Motley Crue". There I would be spending money, here making money. Plus a great time!!!

It's after 5am now. I won't sleep tonight I am sure. Kinda worth it to me...

Gary :)
