A Journey Into My Life

Garden Post

I'm sorry to write so much about my "Garden", but I am excited about it. Get this, I think about "sex" maybe only 8 hours per day. I think about my "Garden" non-stop! 24 hours even. If something "excites me, or pisses me off" I write about it.

Well, the first thing I will say. It's growing like crazy. I am giving away "bags" of food to anyone that will take it. I am out there "picking and weeding" most every day. We never used any "fertilizer", nor did we use any pesticide. I just think the soil and sunlight are perfect1`q2 for a garden here. Our garden is the biggest, and the plants are the biggest around

I am "not happy" with the design we did. Sure it all grows, but we didn't plan it out like we should've. Neither of us are experts at gardening.

Here are the "problems I see". And any expert gardener here feel free to give further advice. I'm trying to learn for next year.

PROBLEMS WITH THE DESIGN

1) I planted the corn too close to eachother. The stalks are like between 4-6 feet now. Every stalk has 2 ears of corn growing on it. There are now 400 stalks growing. We will get "at least" 800 ears of corn. I'm guessing all will be mature in the next 2-3 weeks. I wonder if I didn't place them so close, would I get bigger ears? Plus.. I planted so close.. that getting inside the rows to weed is impossible.

2) The main lettuce row, is like right next to the corn. It's gotta be 30-40 feet long. Plus I have 2 other big rows in the back of different types. Once the corn grew, that blocked sunlight. Not that we lack "lettuce", we could feed a small country with it. I think next year, plant "way less", but farther away so what we do matures great, and gets sunlight, and uses less space. That chit don't keep. I'll tell you, this is how much lettuce we have. I am even pushing it on my "ex wife".. lol.

3) The watermelons are a blunder to me. We planted lots of that, but way too late. Yes the vines are growing all over.. but I doubt the melons will mature before frost starts. Maybe some.. I don't think most will.

4) Cucumbers. Now I picked like 50 of them today. I still we will get alot, but like half the plants are dying. They were planted in a "low area" and we had very heavy rain this weekend. I don't think they are "strong" plants like the Zucchini and squash. Doesn't take much to hurt them. But we still won't lack. I need a better planting design.

5) Zucchini and squash. Those came out perfect. The leaves alone on them are like 2 feet around. They double in size every single day. We planted them too close. You don't want to pick them when they are over a foot long. But with how big they have grown, it's hard to walk through the plants and get them when small (best for cooking). They just need more "space" to grow. Every single day, I pick dozens of these things. The plants alone, are like 5 feet tall.

6) Giant Pumpkins. We didn't plant many of these. But still we will have tons. They double in size every single day. The vines are now over 20 feet long. That means, they are growing into the "other" stuff planted. I know now.. these suckers need room.

7) Weeds are a major problem. I can sit out there for 8 hours a day, and doesn't look like I did chit. I think for next year, we need to do something to stop that. Give advice, if you have some.

I guess I could go on and on about this. I won't.. I just want a "better designed" garden for next year. Ours is "awesome" right now.. and we sure don't lack. But being the "perfectionist" I am.. I gotta show up that "yard Nazi" next door. He doesn't plant a garden, but that sucker is sure into "pretending" all his chit is perfect.. lol.

Take care all, Gary :)
