I'm Excited! And I know you won't give a "flying rat's ass" about this post...
The semi recent virus "Win32:Vitro" (before the conficker 4 virus was heard of) fucked my system. Now being a person who programs, and knows about viruses.. I screwed myself. I didn't plan for it. I didn't protect the way I knew I should, and backed up nothing. I just felt (as usual) if a virus came in I could track it myself. I felt I could get rid of it. 99.9% I can, this time I couldn't. This time, the virus too my entire system.
Alot of stuff I have backed up.. alot I don't. I lost tons of pictures and videos of my kids.. I lost music (30,000 files), I lost about the same amount of emulated games. Now most of the music, games, videos or whatever I can get back in time.. not all pictures. Luckily I have some backed up (about half) and Roxann has alot of the newer on her computer. So the "real" loss will be minimal.. other then alot of time getting stuff back in.
What I didn't do was back up the "video game" I was making. I've spent months on it. And to be honest, it was looking great. When I lost my hard drive, I lost the game. To me, it it was for the BEST!
To create the game, I am using a very "High tech" development tool. The game I lost was using the "first version" of it. Had I not lost that, I would have continued making my game in that environment. However, there is a new version out. it mixes alot. sprites, programming code, 3d graphics, like everything. This is a "professional tool" (program) and learning it in itself requires months. That's if you have great knowledge of game making, as well as computer programming in general.
There is not a single "game" programmer in this world that does "everything" himself. All rely on "library" files, all rely on "Direct X, or "Open GL", all rely on video cards, operating systems.. etc.. What most don't know is a "simple game" you play on your computer", has so much more behind it.
I am excited because, I now have the newest version of the "SGDK 2" program. I am now able to write the author, and he knows I am serious and responds. I will be writing my own code, but also the development kit is "commercial" quality, which can save you time in writing "sprite definitions" or whatever.
I am excited, because I now have the tools to create a game as advanced as anything on the market. Provided I put the time in it. I am now working with maps, tiles, sprite definitions, layers.. alot. Graphics, those no-brainer to me.. I am an artist by nature.. lol. I began working.. and I expect whatever I produce to take 2 years to complete. I plan to release it for "free"...
This is not my "income", this is my passion... I know now.. I got what I need. Game making is not easy, especially a good one. Mine will be cool. Check it out in 2011.. lol.
