Paul tells me, the reason my computer is "slow", is I don't "defag" enough.
So the first thing I have to do, is ask some questions. Do you put in large programs, and delete alot? NO. Then "Paul" why are these people telling you "defrag" is the problem? I don't know, I just know what they say.. and I have been doing it everytime I start the computer. Takes hours. "They are telling you wrong Paul".
Computer lesson #2 (I think I said lesson #1 before):
This is hard to explain, but you can get the jist. I just want to explain it a bit in "human" terms.
Your "Hard drive" is "magnetically" stored. It's all based on "sectors". The common (almost all) is 512 bytes per sector. A byte, is actually 1 character of storage (8 bits per byte, 8 bits for every letter stored). None of that is important here, I just want to give a little background.
You'd have to look at it this way. Since each "sector is 512 bytes", and your hard drive is new. When you install a program. It "Fills" each 512 sector continuous. It will do that till it fills up.
Why Defrag?
Let's say you got a 1 GB game you want to install. Lets say also, you deleted a few 1 MB programs too. This leaves "gaps" in the sectors. Your computer (Windows) will begin to fill those sectors. Fill all those gaps. When you run that new game you bought, Windows has an area, where it "pieces it together" to find it. It only takes a "millisecond" normally. Not a problem. But if you have been "installing and deleting" for a long time, you may notice a difference. In most cases you won't.
If you don't "install and delete" much, and I am not talking emails. Emails take up basically nothing (One byte per character, we aren't even dealing with many pixels for pics). I am talking "real programs". I'd say "defrag" like once a year. You'll be good. More frequent if you put alot of games on and delete.
I've said this like a "hundred times here". The reason I say it, is because if some computer expert knows something I don't (highly unlikely) I'd like their input. I don't write anything "computer wise" unless I feel I know what I am saying. Other subjects, are quite subject to intreptration. If your an "Computer expert" come "brainstorm" with me. I don't tell this for money. And if I am wrong about something.. Set me straight. I expect NO comments against my computer advice.
Paul took his computer to this so called "computer" expert. This one "updated" his computer from 98, to XP. The problem was, his was a little too old for XP. He's now "like".. damn they did all that, and it's slower. Sure, it fixed a few things.. but there were better ways. I checked it out, and in a second I knew his problem. I'd have to say.. 99% of the (so called) computer experts don't know alot. They don't understand the "core", they miss so much it's pathetic to me. They have "degree's", then ask me.. lol.
I'll say again. If you have problems.. ask me. I won't charge. Get a second opinion if you want. Save some money. I'm here if you need me.
