Recipient
President Bush signed the Defense Authorization Bill, Friday, December 28, 2001. The award of The Medal of Honor to CPT Roque (Rocky) Versace was part of the Bill. The Presentation Ceremony took place at the White House, 8 July 2002.

Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his own life above and beyond the call of duty, while held captive by the communist National
Liberation Front (Viet Cong) In the Republic of Vietnam during the period of
29 October 1963 to 26 September 1965. Captain Versace was executed by the
enemy for his steadfast refusal to betray God, country and his fellow
prisoners. He lies buried in an unmarked jungle grave known only to God in
Vietnam.
