Library Card

From the time I was a little girl, I have always had a library card. Whenever I move, one of the first things I do is find the local library and get a card. I really get my money’s worth from my tax dollars, since I check out books every week. My library also has a great DVD section. I am partial to the BBC TV series. Have you heard of “Pie in the Sky?" It was a recent TV series on BBC-very clever and funny. Check it out. (Unintended pun there!) For those of you with Netflix, try there if not at your library. Lately I have been reading anything by Bill Bryson. His book "A Walk in the Woods", about walking the Appalachian Trail, is great.

I think people forget how great it is to read library books - saves a lot of money, and they don't fill up the house. From here in Colorado I can log into the Las Vegas library and use our library card from there to download audio books to my iPod, which is a miracle of the technology age as far as I'm concerned.

I don't have an e-reader, but am tempted to get one because there are so many books I could download in that format. But first I have to read all these paperbacks around here, so it will be a while.

Oh my gosh, that is amazing. I don't have an ipod. I am thinking about getting an ereader since I can get books for that from the library. But I really like holding the physical book in my hands.

I love the library!! I just checked out "short stories" by Ralph Waldo Emerson (I may visit his house while in N.E.), a Richard Dawkins "evolution" book, and an interesting looking novel by Louise Erdrich. I have read "A Walk in the Woods", plus several other Bryson books. While funny, I didn't particularly enjoy it. Good reason not to hike the A.T. (which I have done sections--and he's right! You'll see.)

I have a friend who hiked the trail during the summer over several years. His reaction to the book was the same as yours. He made a paper map of the trail from start to finish. When spread out, it covered a school gym floor.

Same here--always have had a library card--and I would rather deal with a librarian than the Internet!!!

Our little library has gone tech. Let a lot of circulation clerks go. Self check in and check out. A few friends still work there though. It is nice to see friendly, familiar faces.
