Labor Day Weekkend

In my village, Labor Day weekend is celebrated with Buffalo Grove Days. Originally, this fest was started to give local folks something to do over the weekend without leaving town as we had all moved here from other places. It involved a carnival and a dinner dance in a tent. Now it is a five day extravaganza, with bingo, a food tent, a beer tent, concerts, craft booths, a carnival, a parade, a blood drive. Last night the village jazz band played. They were great-mostly older people who just love to still make music. They were followed by a more youthful group. Lots of noise, many young people jumping up and down, waving their hands. The older audience members left at this point. Tonight there will be tribute bands to Journey and REO. Tomorrow night a Jimmy Buffett tribute band. They should all be good. My grandson loves the carnival. I love the parade. I gave blood this morning. BG Days always signals the end of summer for us. School started two weeks ago. I am not ready for fall yet. Neither is Mother Nature-it is 87 degrees today.

Sounds like a hoot. I've seen Jimmy Buffet a couple of times. Always fun. All we get around here is country and gospel music. And for the life of me, I can't find BG in my atlas! Quad cities area?

My son and his wife see Jimmy Buffet every time he comes to Chicago, which is almost every year. The tribute band was great.

Not Quad cities. Chicago suburb, northwest, north of Arlington Heights, west of Wheeling, not always on maps. My posts sound like I live in a jumping, busy place. Not true-one block party and one village fest each year. Fourth of July fireworks. That is it. Mostly a quiet town. Until 50 years ago, it was mostly farms here.

It sounds like such fun.

Funny how a little town get together can morf into a huge thing where people come from miles around to be a part of it. Port Alberni (Salmon Capital of the World and 2010's WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town Canada) is having it's annual Salmon Festival this weekend.

This fest is probably a lot like ours. Thanks for the comment.

I know Labor Day weekend is 'the last holiday of summer' in the northeast and there are State fairs, big to-dos, etc.,--wonder if with all the flooding there will much of a celebration to 'the end of summer'.

It was so hard to watch the storm last week. Was it just a week ago? Over so quickly but so long to recover.

Lots of partying in your town - block party and now this. Mr. Troutbend donates blood regularly, has a relatively rare type, and they call him the moment he's eligible to do it again. We call them 'the vampires' as in: "The vampires are on the phone, they want to schedule another session." I think one reason he likes to do it is for the free snacks.

Yes. Cranberry/raspberry juice cocktail and all the bakery-made cookies you can eat. Yum.
