Have you heard of the latest publishing phenom? According to a piece on Good Morning America last week, it is "50 Shades of Gray" based on a fan fiction book based on the Twilight series. So we have had the Harry Potter series for children, the Twilight series for teens and now this series of three for adults. It is being called "mommy porn" and being referred to as "the book" (the equivalent of a plain brown wrapper). I had already heard of it before the GMA piece. A friend requested it from our library and the trilogy is now on order. It is being reprinted and won't be available in hard copy until April. Downloads are possible now. It is a runaway best seller, number one on both Amazon and the New York Times best seller lists. This book has had no paid for advertising; it is strictly word of mouth. If you see a woman reading on her iphone or ereader, looking over her shoulder or looking guilty, chances are she is reading "the book". I am on "the list" for "the book" at "the library".
