Interesting. I never thought about it. Of course alchemists looked for the "philosophers' stone", chemical key for changing lead to gold. It seems they needed a lot more power than they thought. But you cannot eat gold nor use it for energy. The "philosophers' stone" now would be fusion, the answer to the world energy problems if we could control it. We need to get back on that problem.

Some of these tentative second thoughts remind me of my present Pastor, who has been going through the same thing, which also reminds me of the book by Brian McLaren, "A New Kind of Christian". You may know it already, if not, reading it might be an empathetic experience for you; it was for my Pastor

I start reading something not connected with what I usually do (even novels) and talking to or blogging with people doing other things. And believe it or not, reading the Bible. Something always turns up that encourages me in my regular work

I am not trying that oxycontin (sorry you have to). Can't drink scotch anymore either but do indeed like a glass of good Oregon wine or pint of Terminal Gravity IPA (fantastic ale) (limited to 1 but I appreciate it). Zyrtek more or less works for me, too. Well, here's to your better health, good friends, and eventually that Scotch

Have a safe good trip (selamat jalan). Good for your friends and relatives coming up with the money. You are worth it, whether you win or not, and Indonesia certainly should have paid, Good Grief!. I'll bet you win - a very timely topic. We are expecting a tsunami here on the Oregon coast and probably could use such a device too (Capacitance-acceleration effect I am not familiar with and must look it up. Well GOOD LUCK and keep smiling

No doubt the CIA ARE good at what they do best (which is NOT, for example, predicting WMD or finding Osama)

Hi Rara. A good enough analogy - I definitely know what you mean. I gave up too and threw away my cell phone (although they did not actually have them then). It was years before I got myself into such back shape that I could not handle another day by myself - and I reached for the phone. Fortunately someone was on the line (not a recording). Best call I ever madeBut I think it only works if you really want it to. Thanks for coming by - I appreciate your views on things

Ethanol or not is not the problem, in my opinion. The problem is putting all our energy eggs in the Middle East basket and then turning it over ourselves, thus putting a scare in the market with oil-hence gasoline/ diesel prices shooting up and cost of transporting everything from eggs to oatmeal going up with it. Getting the world's main country several trillion in debt to creditors about as friendly as Mafia loan sharks did not help market confidence that much either. But what do I know?

Yes, it IS changeable here in the North West. We go for walks on the bike path along the river when we can. Sometimes when we start out to drive there it is bright sunny but too rainy, cold, or windy by the time we get there on the other side of town. We, however, do not walk anyway; we usually go get something to eat. Hope Spring is up there today - we see the geese heading your way

Well it would be nice and may come about, but unless we can go to all nuclear, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power plants they will not help the pollution or decrease global warming. UNLESS we sequester the CO2 - the best technology for this should be the next big push (or do we only do war?)

VERY best wishes on the competitions and on a healed nose of original shape. I was in Dubrovnik some years ago - interesting old walled city - if you can have a side trip. Welcome back
