First Lady's Fashion

Michele Obama looked very fashionable in her matching dress and coat at her husband's inauguration. I thought the outfit was rather a retro look that one might have seen in the 1960's. The fabric and also the neckline rhinestones especially reflected that era. The color was a lemon grass yellow which really looked good on her. Personally, I could not get away with that color. I'd be completely washed out. It is a good color for a person with dark skin.

I think the fabric did not "hang" as well as another fabric, but I think it was chosen for warmth because it was such a cold day. I noticed that after sitting for awhile, the fabric reflected the shape of her backside.

The olive colored gloves and shoes were okay, but not great. But then, lemon yellow is a difficult color when looking for matching accessories for a winter day.

Now.... to the gown....

Very pretty and very feminine... but not a good style for her. It did not flatter her large frame and made her look too large in places which are her problem areas.

The gown had a sort of train to it which would have worked for a wedding, but not great for dancing. It got in her way time after time and even her husband was having to move it out of their way when dancing. At times, the train of the dress was more their focus than just enjoying a relaxing dance. Also, the designer really goofed when he failed to get the length correct. It was too long for walking without the possibility of tripping. I think by the end of the evening, she was probably glad to get out of that dress!!!!

I have to say... the First Couple really looked romantic while they danced. The dress did add to the picture of a young couple at a high school prom. How sweet!!!!
