An Astronaut, A Physicist, And Startling New Information About Jesus' Resurrection

As science and technology have become more sophisticated, scientific researchers have endeavored to determine the authenticity of the Shroud. One aspect of the study to which every researcher agrees is that the image on the Shroud was not created by any means available at the time nor through modern technological means.

The Shroud is a piece of ancient linen measuring 14 feet 3 inches long by 3 feet 7 inches wide. Its bloodstains overlie a negative image of the undistorted front and back views of a man who appears to have been severely beaten, pierced, and crucified. For centuries, millions of Christians have asserted Christ's body was wrapped in the Shroud when He was placed in a borrowed tomb in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. They believed that the image of Jesus was projected onto the cloth as He resurrected from the grave.

Particle Physicist's Revolutionary Theory

In 2004, working independently, Dame Isabel Piczek, a particle physicist and monumental artist of international repute became fascinated by the total lack of distortion of the Shroud image, a physical impossibility if the body had been lying on solid rock. She created a sculpture of the man on the Shroud. When viewed from the side, the sculpture gives the impression as if the man is suspended in mid air, indicating that the image defies previously accepted science.

Piczek, one of the experts interviewed for The Fabric of Time, is able to demonstrate that the formation of the image brings us to the threshold of what physicists call a "true event horizon," a moment in time when all of the laws of physics change drastically. She contends that the image was created in an infinitesimally small fraction of a second.

Confirmation from Former Astronaut

Another expert interviewed for the documentary was Dr. Edgar Mitchell, a former U.S. Apollo astronaut and the sixth man to walk on the moon. On his return voyage from space, Mitchell became interested in the way things in the universe work. Later, he came up with his own discovery that is applicable to Piczek's findings and to the Shroud. According to Mitchell, "If you analyze, all the emissions from any physical object, what is revealed is something called a 'quantum hologram.' And what we now know now that we didn't know before is that every object is a quantum object."

Scientists Create Hologram from Shroud Image

As shown in the documentary, recent scientific advances and state-of-the-art technology now allow scientific researchers to study details of the Shroud image that were never seen before. Dutch scientists led by Dr. Petrus Soons used laser technology to convert two-dimensional photographic negatives of the image on the Shroud to three-dimensional, anatomically accurate holograms of the crucified man.

The holographic front and back images reveal numerous new findings and features never before seen on the Shroud or on previous two-dimensional Shroud photographs. Each of these new specific observations conform to the biblical accounts of Christ's death and Resurrection.

Among the further clarified and never-before seen holographic details are: (1) The position of the feet and legs were never clearly visible—now the positioning is clear; (2) A bloodspot that was previously shown above the area of the head now appears on top of the head; (3) The marks caused by the dumbbell-shaped weights on the ends of Roman whips are now seen to follow the curves of the sides of the upper and lower legs, as well as the shoulders; (4) There are two small objects on the eyelids that are believed by some numismatists to be small coins minted in the years A.D. 29 and 33 verifying previous observations; (5) The sides of the face are revealed for the first time; (6) The hologram verifies there is swelling under the right eye, as well as localization of bloodspots throughout the body; (7) Previously, the beard was believed to be divided at the bottom, but an intact beard is now visible; and (8) Placed below the beard on the neck area of the frontal Shroud image is a solid flat object which had never been clearly seen before on photographs.

An additional fifty other previously observed details on the Shroud photographs also confirm the cloth to the biblical account of Christ's Resurrection.

"Skeptics have long demanded proof of the existence of Christ, His death and Resurrection," cites Sellier. "With the development of this holographic image from the 2000 year-old Shroud, science and technology have finally combined to provide new information which seems to indicate this truly may be the burial cloth of Christ."

The Most Rigorously Researched Artifact in History

Grizzly Adams senior producer, David Balsiger notes, "To date, hundreds of thousands of hours of detailed study and intense research have been devoted to the Shroud. It is, in fact, the single most studied artifact in human history."

The documentary is based in part on the books The Shroud of Turin by Ian Wilson (Doubleday), The Blood and the Shroud by Ian Wilson (Orion Publishing Group), and the Shroud of Turin: An Adventure of Discovery by Mary and Alan Whanger, M.D. (Providence House).

The DVD version of the Fabric of Time contains an impressive list of bonus features including: Legal arguments for documenting the Shroud's authenticity, whether the Shroud is a painting, how the Shroud is preserved, three-dimensional images from the holograms, and several extended interviews.
