Did You Know? Vit D

Did You Know? Vitamin D3 87% More Potent than D2 May 2011 ....Vitamin D3 is 87% more potent at promoting healthy blood levels of
the vitamin than vitamin D2, according to a new study. Besides the
increase in potency, results indicate that vitamin D3 also supports a
two- to three-fold increase in the storage of the vitamin. Scientists
supplemented 33 healthy adults with 50,000 IU of either vitamin D2 or D3
per week for 12 weeks. Results showed that about 17% of the D3 ingested
was stored by the subjects, and the rest was consumed or metabolized.
"This is a daily utilization rate of about 6,500 IU at a concentration
of 50 ng/mL at the end of treatment," wrote the researchers. Optimal
levels of vitamin D are considered to be between 50-80 ng/mL.

Well keep on keeping on. I've met people too who walk a lot, older folks I see. One man said he walks so much because he no longer needs his blood pressure med's, walking lowered his BP.
So I try to take control of what I do..move about. And what I eat, that's about all I can "control" anyway right?

15 minutes of sun is all you need to get your allotment of needed vitamin D--it is a must for older people--also as my doctor said most of a multi vitamin goes down the toilet--get your vitamins naturally if you want them to benefit you the most! (Shhhh--don't tell him--I take a multi-vitamin!)

Not everyone lives is the sunshine states like we do. I too sit out in the sun for about 15 mins. a day. However I remember Chicago...I too take several vitamins, in the morning and again at that 3:00 slump, when I find myself standing in front of the open refrigerator, better to drink a glass of water and take some vit's for me anyway.

A few days ago on TV Doctors Show, they were talking about Vitamin D, sooo many diseases COULD be avoided by use of VIT D. We just can't get enough from food or sunlight..They said we need.."But how much is too much, and what are the recommended amounts of Vitamin D? The answer is somewhere between 200 IU (International Units) and 2000 IU, depending on who you talk to. You don’t want to take more than 2000 IU a day because Vitamin D can be toxic at doses higher than 2000 IU. The most popular answer right now is to take about 1000 IU a day.
Drink fortified beverages such as OJ and milk. You can also get Vitamin D from fish, cod liver oil, and eggs.
