How does this equate to loss of sovereignty? There is no mandate from outside the US for anyone to accept anything other than US currency. Some US citizens -- of their own free choice and personal sovereignty -- are willing to accept other currencies as a matter of convenience or for some other reason, just as they're also free to barter. I see such personal freedom as a good thing and an affirmation of our liberty, not a loss of national power or determination.

When it comes to Chinese espionage, you'd better not single out any one administration or else we're going to have an extensive dialog -- which I will make very embarrassing for you -- about how long the Chinese have been trying to steal military and industrial secrets from the US. Hint: a lot freaking longer than this administration's been in power.

Can we discuss Lippo Group in this context? How about Wen Ho Lee and a legitimate case (much more so than Padilla) of civil rights violations -- which the US government and media outlets settled for lots of money -- under the Clinton Administration?

In a way, this has the feeling of an exile community. You get out of a bad place run by bad or incompetent people who have grandiose ideas, then you watch from afar as it implodes, and you wonder if it'll ever be worth returning to pick up the pieces.

Toyota has several manufacturing sites in the US, including a billion-dollar truck plant in San Antonio and assembly plants in prime "NASCAR" states like Alabama and Tennessee.

That's one of my peeves -- distracted drivers. I've been hit a couple times while running and both times because the driver was dialing. I don't think you should let pride stand in the way of expecting this woman to make things right. Her callous negligence set you back and you shouldn't have to subsidize her stupidity. How soon is the concert? Hope you feel better soon.

The pasta with andouille sounds good but the praline muffin sounds even better.

I was wondering what in the world I was doing to cause that. Kinda freaks me out when it happens.

While I wouldn't call the robot-chick voice "sexy," it's more pleasant than the dreaded "Microsoft Bob" voice.

I responded to someone else about this particular subject in the last couple weeks (I think it's only been that long). Friendship doesn't have any prerequisites and exists despite differences, not on the basis of a lack of differences. Someone who doesn't overlook differences but instead dwells on them is no friend (and not much fun to be around). Any friendship that comes with strings isn't really friendship. Sorry you're going through this, too, now.

We'll never see things the same way with respect to meat/animal rights (unless you come to your senses, heh), but I hope you can stop smoking. We can discuss the merits of lean versus fatty meats and how the former *is* healthy, but there's no debate when it comes to the dangers of smoking -- there's not "good smoking" just bad smoking. I think smoking is more physiological than psychological for many people, which is why some people have a much more difficult time quitting. Don't give up and don't discount any routes to success even if it means trying some of the medications now available. Good luck.
