New Year's Eve Las Vegas

To welcome 2010 we finally had a good view of the New Year's Eve fireworks here in Las Vegas. Our hotel room on the 14th floor faced the Strip, about 3/4s of a mile west so we had a good distance. Fireworks are set off from the tops of seven hotels along the Strip simultaneously, the same fireworks at each location, pretty much at the same time.

It's hard to photograph fireworks, and finally I stopped trying and just enjoyed the show.

No telling what this coming year will bring and where we will be celebrating next New Year's Eve, but this was a good one.

Some people at our dinner table paid $50 each for tickets to get into the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio Hotel. This did not include being able to sit at a table, that was going to cost an additional $1200 and they expect you to buy a bottle of booze for $200 - $500 and they provide the mixers for a fee and they expect tips. It is on top of their tallest tower, and has this bridge thing facing the Strip that I assume people who paid more than $50 were allowed to stand on and watch the fireworks.

It's on top of this tower that is about 40 stories tall.

Here is a picture of the blue moon rising over the Strip. For those who don't know, a blue moon is the second full moon in a month, and this one happened to hit on New Year's Eve this year, which I thought was auspicious.
