Estes Park Weed Roundup - Pulling for Colorado

Saturday July 26, 2008 Saturday

9:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Town Dump/Recycle Center, 666 Elm Road

Round up your family and friends and join us for a weed roundup and day of fun! Through educational booths, demonstrations, and hands-on instruction, you'll learn how to identify and effectively remove noxious and invasive weeds before they spread.

Also, bring in your bags of pulled weeds to the event for free disposal, and the first 100 people to bring in at least one full trash bag of weeds gets a free "Pulling for Colorado" weed t-shirt (kid sizes too!!).

Prizes will be awarded to those that bring in the most bags of weeds and the biggest weed specimens. There will also be prizes for anyone that can correctly identify all 10 live weed samples on hand.

Free food and drink will be provided by local restaurants including Ed's Cantina, Poppy's Pizza and Grill, Big Horn Restaurant, and the Other Side Restaurant.

This event will also kick off the establishment of a new free weed dump site sponsored by the Town of Estes Park. No bags of non-weed materials will be accepted. This event is sponsored by Pulling For Colorado, the Estes Land Stewardship Association, Larimer County , and the Town of Estes Park.

All ages welcome, no limit to participants

Our main weed around here is Canadian Thistle.

P.S. The weed pulling festival is impressive. We got nothing around here like that. Mango festivals though. Ed says the thistle
is really nice and wants you to send some.

I like the thistle and wouldn't pull anything that looks that pretty.

I presume the Judge is talking about soiled Doves as they are known in the Westerns. This might be fun. I have been less diligent about weeding since it has reached l00 degrees.

Now see, I think thistle is beautiful, notwithstanding that it may a "weed." My wife and I go back & forth all the time over "weeds" on our property. I tend to want to see them flower before deciding whether they're bad things. Almost all of them flower. To me, the designation "weed" is akin to calling someone a "#####." She may still be attractive and deserve an opportunity to flower. Maybe I should do a post about this, eh?
