Turkey and Snow

The motion sensor driveway lights went on the other night, and I walked over there to see what triggered them. In the distance I thought I saw a turkey, of all things, in the distance walking toward the back of the red cabin. But we don't have wild turkeys down here, although there are some quite a few miles from here along a different river.

But yesterday, a giant tom showed up in our backyard. Don't tell the fox.

And the snow is coming down hard.

I'm pretty excited about that turkey. I never realized a wild turkey could get so big, and I was wishing he'd fluff out his tail and show off for us.

We have a Facebook page for the people along the river, and everyone has been mentioning how nervous the rise in the river and all this snow is making them. It is supposed to snow all night and then taper off tomorrow morning, and then warm up. Quite a storm.

Has the fox been around? In the 80s I went to Greece and visited my ancestral home being inhabited by my late uncle's wife. In the yard was a peacock. That was wondrous.

The fox comes just about every night after dark, so I seldom see him. The cat sees him and gets excited. One time in Las Vegas we were driving past a house that had peacocks and cats, and one of the birds was in full display mode parading in front of a disdainful Persian. I wished for my camera.
