The river is still four feet deep from the snow melt. Yesterday was cooler and overcast most of the day, so that slowed it down some. Today isn't exactly hot, but the skies are clear so there will be more melting.
Eventually the river level will go back to the 12- to 18-inch normal, but it will be some permanent changes in the banks and the rocks in the bottom. When you stand and listen, you can hear underwater rocks being moved downstream by the current. I hope in the long run this will improve the fish habitat.
I don't know if the high river has affected it, but the beaver has been working on a good-sized fir tree. Note how neatly he's trimmed off the side branches. He doesn't usually bother the evergreens, so it's a surprise.
Along the riverbank the small cherry trees are in bloom, a promise of summer fruit.
