Yesterday I didn't have any flood meetings, and got up looking forward to finally doing some things around the house. There were just a few things I needed to do on the computer - send a couple emails, work on my picnic food shopping list: shouldn't take too long. I made my to-do list and got started, an hour's worth of work, I thought.
More than 12 hours later I was still working my way through the list.
I had a phone message about the Quickbooks application for our conservation district that I'm the new secretary/treasurer of so had to talk to someone about the plans for that. The district's computer recently crashed, but I'm not getting involved in the recovery of that because people will expect me to help next time something comes up.
Someone emailed asking how to create a watershed coalition so I googled it and found a good presentation from back east that did a good job describing the nuts and bolts of the process, but it started on the assumption they had a group of people who wanted to form a coalition. I told him find 20 people who are interested and I'll sit down with them and figure out what the want to achieve, and then we'll know how to get started.
We are distributing 5000 free trees to two different watersheds, and delivery day is this coming Wednesday. I had to create order summaries for the distribution hubs and work out how to meet up with the outliers, those people who live in far-flung parts of our area.
Partnered with another coalition member, I designed and bought 56 tee shirts that we'll sell and donate the profits to the coalition. We went with fewer colors to keep the costs down so the coalition will receive at least $12 from each $20 shirt. Half are green, and half are a nice medium brown color they call Old Gold. Yesterday I worked on a spreadsheet to track the sales and sales tax liability.
Yesterday there were two hummingbirds, a male and a female, and today there are at least three. I'm so glad they are back. This early in spring, it's always hard to imagine having 100 birds, but it's not too long before we'll spend most of our time refilling feeders.
Mr. TroutBend is coming here from Las Vegas on May 14. I have a renter coming for the guest cabin on May 16, so we have the one day to make sure the water system survived the winter intact. My regulars who come back nearly every year have called and reserved their dates, and I spent some time cleaning up my Google Calendar.
I have so many things on my calendar to cover the many meetings and activities related to flood recovery, keeping the calendar up to date takes considerable time on its own.
Then, for a break I 'fixed' the light switch in the garage. There are three switches for one light located by different entrances, and I finally got them to where if the light is on, the switch is up where I turned it on, and down for off. So if the light is off, all three switches are in the down position. I've got some others like that, and maybe some day I'll get them 'fixed' too.
I have been spending a lot of time lately keeping hackers out of the websites I manage. I go into the dashboards to see who is trying to do malicious things to the files and block their IP addresses. Most days I spend at least an hour a day doing that, but yesterday I was so busy with other things, I only put about 30 minutes into it.
There's a lot more, but it's taking so much time to describe it, I don't have time for it. Hah! I still have many things to do, but today I'm sticking with things around the house rather than flood recovery work.
