This title makes me think of Texas Hold'em poker with its river card, the final shared card.
Some federal flood recovery money is going to pay for some river design at my house, and the consultants were here today looking at it now that the ice is gone. I'm looking forward to seeing their final design and finding out what it would cost to implement it.
The fish are doing well, I can see some of them from the bridge. If this river project is completed, they will have better habitat, and we'll have more fish.
These are cherry trees that my mother planted along the river more than 30 years ago. I'm pleased that they survived the flood, a tribute to the resiliency of trees because they were deep underwater and there some areas where they could have been buried deep under sand. But they were in just the right spot, and I'm so pleased to see them.
We have a cabin reservation for Memorial Day weekend, allowing Mr. Troutbend two weeks to replace the kitchen window that the bear destroyed. I decided I'd better try to figure out if a standard size replacement window will fit because there won't be time to special order one. I have an idea in my head of what he will need to do and it might involve a sawsall - goes through anything. I warned the guests that we might be still working on that window when they get here, and he said he'd make his wife sleep on the side of the bed nearest it in case the bear came back. They've been here before, don't live very far away, and it's always nice to have them come stay. I found out a comparable cabin downstream from here is $275 a night, and I only charge $100 a nice because I want nice people to feel like they can afford to come back.
