Only in Las Vegas: Sock Monkeys

From today's Las Vegas Review-Jounal:

You're never too old to enjoy a night on the town with the Chippendales.

Taking a dialysis-be-damned attitude, Christina Vickery, a resident at Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma, celebrated her 90th birthday last week at the Rio's male revue.

Vickery, who has been making themed sock monkeys for years, was prepared for her first male revue.

After being brought on stage for some special attention from the Chips, she whipped out a sock monkey that wore only a miniature jacket and a G-string stuffed with a tiny sock.

"We'll be back," promised Solinea Isbell, the activities director (and former showgirl) who set it all up.

Another article in the paper is about how the room rates are the lowest in years. A 22 year-old guy from Chicago has changed his room reservation a couple of times to stay at better places for about the same money as what he booked four months ago before the economy tanked.

"Burgstahler will start his vacation Dec. 28 at Encore for $219 per night, then move on to Monte Carlo to take advantage of a three-night deal for $450 that includes New Year's Eve.

He had been expecting to sink about $1,500 on lodging for a New Year's Eve vacation in Las Vegas, typically one of the costliest times of the year. But it turns out he'll only spend about $850."

What kind of job do you think this guy has? When you were 22 did you expect to sink $1500 on lodging, not including food and gambling and airplane tickets for a 5 or 6 day vacation? Or maybe he's putting it on credit cards figuring he can write off the debt thanks to government bailout.

This is not me in the photo. I'd like to follow those housekeeping women around some time and get some tips.

I am proud of her....celebrating her birthday at the Chippendales. Teal sock monkeys are what poor kids had during the depression.

Hurray for Vickery. I don't know what is a sock monkey. I've been deprived.
