Lamp Shades

I want some new lamp shades for several of my lamps. It seems like the best thing to do is load them into the truck and take them to town so I can try on what's available to get the best look.

On my summer list of things to get done there are items related to moving lamps around between the houses. Maybe I'll do that before I start thinking about the new lampshades. There might be some opportunities to retire out some of the lamps I don't like in favor of others that fit in better in a new spot.

One of my main goals for lamps in the guest cabins is to make sure that people have a good reading light next to the bed. The lamp shouldn't be so tall that the bare bulb shines right into their eyes when they are lying down. We rearranged one of the bedrooms, and now only one side of the bed has a bedside table because the room's not wide enough, so I'm thinking of finding what is called a pin-up lamp for the side of the bed with no table.

Eventually Ed and I will get around to such lamps for our bed. Now wehave two traditional lamps on each side. They are cumbersome and the shades get old too quickly. I did not know Kitchentales was a whole other blog. I thought you were just trading off on your nick.

That is a neat solution to your problem. So many of us read ourselves to
sleep.

I agree with Marta. The pin-up light sounds like a great idea. However, it might require additional wiring. That could be a negative.

No, they have a cord that comes from the wall socket up to the lamp, works best if the outlet is right there like mine is. It's not as pretty as if the cord was inside the wall, but it's more flexible.

The lamp you have pictured, Laura, is a great idea, as it lets you pull the lamp closer to you and your book and then push it away when to don't need it. I think it looks snazzy, too. Hope you can find it.

My folks had a couple like that over the twin beds years ago (maybe not as cute) that might be around here somewhere. I'm going to look in the attic before I go buy one, but secretly I'm hoping I can get a new one.
