This spring there was a 50 something man who went hiking near here in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a day hike, so he didn't take a lot of supplies. Somehow during his hike he fell and broke his pelvis. It was a remote area, and he didn't have a cell phone to call for help. So he started crawling along the trail toward civilization.
The next day a couple of guys decided to do some hiking in that same remote area, and by luck they met up with this man. They asked him if he was okay, and he said he was fine, just resting. But they didn't believe him because his knees were bleeding, and he seemed disoriented.
So they called in the rescuers, and the injured guy was taken to the hospital, where he eventually expressed his gratitude that those guys had found him. In some of the news articles about it, he came across as irritated with them because he thought he had it under control.
I guess it wasn't his time to die.
Every time I read one of these stories I wonder how come all these hikers can get a cell phone signal in the remote wilderness and we are in view of the main highway and can't.
