Fire Pictures

The house fire ignited a propane tank next to the A-Frame chapel. A lesson in why not to store propane tanks next to a structure.

Under different conditions, the entire neighborhood could have burned. It has been very windy here lately, but fortunately not last night.

So glad no one got hurt. The photo is impressive.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. If they took a vote of the neighbors in the canyon, not just the ones around there, it would be unanimous: don't prosecute anyone, we so glad to see it gone. I wish I had a picture of how bad it looked after the flood, but on the other hand, some things are best forgotten.

As the firemen say around here, "we never lost a basement". But they rarely save a house.

Oh, that's a funny thought. Previously people talked about that house starting out as a trailer house and then was added on to in order to look more like a house, but looking at it on fire, I don't see indication of that sort of internal structure.

I've never seen a whole house on fire in real life. Scary. I wonder what a safe distance is for propane or heating oil tanks -- a friend has one or two out in his countrified area.

Local building codes stipulate the distances between propane tanks and structures, depending on the size of the tank. They often modify them, so it might be fine for years, and then the propane guy says we have to move our tank more feet some direction, and that is easier said than done. That tank next to the chapel was small enough to be allowed that close to the exterior wall, but now we know the downside of that.

Yikes. Glad everything is ok!

It would be very disturbing if that house wasn't already an unoccupied wreck filled with junk. It still had the former owners' stuff in it - they took what they could salvage after the flood and literally walked away, so it wasn't just an empty house, it was a hazard and an eyesore.

Floods! Fires! Are you sure you don't live in the 'Bible Belt'???

Apparently we don't need no stinkin' tornadoes or hurricanes to have our share of havoc around here.
