Chicken and Waffles

As a person who has always been interested in regional food, I'm surprised that I never heard of chicken and waffles until about a year ago. This joins a list that includes black beans, sun dried tomatoes, and ciabatta bread that I lived most of my life knowing nothing about, and now the powers that be would have us believe these foods are an indispensable part of our diet.

I'll have to try it at home sometime, but first I need to find chicken and waffles served on purpose in a restaurant so I can get an idea of what it's supposed to taste like.

This is from Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona:

That pile of cheesy looking stuff with the green on it might be cheese grits, and the pink beverage is Kool-Aid.

The fried chicken looks great. I haven't had any in a long time but given that I eat everything that is bad, I would love some.

I would not survive a meal like this. Aside from the calories, the fat would kill me. I am not able to ingest large amounts of fat. I had my g.b. removed. Luckily, I am not tempted by breading.

Sounds like real comfort food. Fact is... right now it is looking really delicious.

Butter, I'm sorry to say, and probably not really butter, but that nasty whipped tub margarine. The first thing a person would want to do would be take that thing off before it melted any more than it has. This particular restaurant accompanies their plates with 2 fried eggs, just to round things out.

IS that a big glob of butter or a small scoop of mashed potatoes on the waffles?
