I didn't think Mardelle, whose weekend cabin was used by her neighbor for trysts with his mistress. could top that story. But then she showed me a couple of poison pen letters sent to her and the next door neighbor regarding a third neighbor who has a cabin at the end of the neighborhood.
Mardelle owns his cabin, and is giving it to him in her will. In exchange, he's fixing it up. The first letter came in October 2014 to the neighbor in the middle, talked about how this fellow puts out salt blocks to attract wildlife so he can photograph it; just wanted the neighbor to be aware of it.
The second letter was to Mardelle, a full year later, in October 2015. It warned her that the fellow is complaining that the cabin doesn't have a well, and he has to haul water for it. The gist of the letter seems to be to warn her that she's being taken advantage of.
She didn't realize the 2014 letter existed until she mentioned it to those people, and now she wants to tell the guy the letters are about because she is afraid he might have received one and is afraid she'll find out.
We talked about who could have sent them, how the word usage sounds like an older man, and someone who knows more about this guy than what might meet the eye in casual acquaintance - beyond wildlife baiting.
Right now, we are trying to figure out how to trick the possible candidates into giving us a sample of their handwriting.
