What Was in the Camera

A big diversion dam, part of a hydroelectric project, was removed from here because it was so damaged in the flooding. It had a lake behind it that had become choked with silt. After the dam was removed, the silt was loaded into trucks and used to shore up badly eroded river banks.

This is my side stream, a place where there is no stream channel at all - the stream is about 2 inches deep, and if there was no water, the banks would be 2 inches deep. When the snow melts this spring, or we get rain storms, there will be nothing to contain the water.

There is a giant 30 foot wide by 12 foot tall debris pile on the other side of those trees. This picture was taken to illustrate the rough terrain that makes it impossible to remove that debris coming from our land - large equipment needs to come across the river on the other side of that debris pile and take it out that way. We get a lot of offers of volunteers to clear debris, but in this case they would not be able to do it. I'm trying to talk the county into bringing equipment to clean this up because it borders on their public park.

Any wish list that includes a tractor has me in awe.

Driving one of those tractors gives a person a tremendous sense of power. I could make a lot of money renting it to the cabin guests to drive around the property; there is an attraction in Las Vegas that rents out heavy equipment that way.

I can just see you zooming all around on your tractor!

Yep, that's how it is. When I get that thing started, look out! I've been watching all the heavy equipment operators working up and down the canyon, and now I think I have more skills than I really do.

I don't think Spring with all the melting snow is anything to look forward to!!!

But I have to admit that my situation here isn't so dire compared to some people around here, so I can afford to say 'bring it on.'

I want it come on big so we can see how well the work done so far is going to handle a good-sized flood event. If it's wimpy, then we'll be nervous all over again next year.

You really need a day out in Denver just being giddy and having a girly
day.

Maybe some day, but no time soon.

Looks like a never-ending "to do" list.

I try to not think about how much there is to do. More volunteers might come next week (it's spring break time) so I want to organize some projects for them, namely, marking the trees that need to be dug out. If I'm lucky, they will be able to help me start my tractor, and then woo-hoo! I can move large quantities of sand and rocks and debris all over the place.
