Of course there always is something going on around here. We are entering the intrigue phase of our river coalition.
Today I had a phone conversation with a fellow steering committee member who wants to fire the guy leading it and nominate himself to be a paid consultant. I'm looking forward to watching it play out over the next 90 days.
I wouldn't mind seeing the back of the current leader because he has done a very poor job of engaging the landowners along the river to make them feel a part of the coalition process. Early on, we were told it was important that we join the coalition and use one set of engineers and experts so the flood recovery projects along the river will be consistent and 'holistic' - the favorite catchword around here.
But then, due to how this guy managed things, the master planning consultants are not going to provide the sort of information and experts we need: every landowner is going to have to hire their own experts to tell them what to do next.
But one never knows - maybe the incumbent has some wily plan up his sleeve. Supposedly we need a unanimous vote by the steering committee, and I'm counting who's on whose side, and who's on the fence.
