We are not getting the snow we need, just a cold snap. I was jealous that back east there was a Nor'easter.
As you get older, do you notice that the weeks and months just speed along, and we barely have time to realize it's January before we're looking at the middle of the month, and then it's a slippery slope toward the end of the month.
And before we know it, it'll be February 29, Great Martin's birthday. Best not forget that.
It's this time of year that I start planning my summer garden so I can start seeds indoors. I usually hold off getting them started until March or so, because I don't want them to get too leggy growing indoors. Our last frost is the end of May, so This year I am going to start some of them really early so they might get bigger by the time I want to put them out.
For some of them I have teepees with water in the walls and can put the squash and peppers out in early May. the main problem is our nights aren't warm enough for most vegetables to prosper, pretty much through the summer. One year I had a planter box that I put a table lamp under on a timer so the light was on all night, generating some heat. That seemed to help the tomatoes, but I wanted to find other solutions. I've also tried heating the soil in a raised bed with heat tape, but it only worked for a couple of seasons. Now I just do my best and enjoy what manages to grow, mostly wildflowers planted from seed.
