Waiting for the First Snow

We are finally going to have our first major snowstorm of the season, so 'they' say. Yesterday the high temperatures in Colorado were record-setting warm - almost 80 degrees, and now we are all supposed to get 5 to 10 inches of snow starting this afternoon and into tomorrow.

Fifteen minutes ago the sky was blue, the bright sun was shining, and there was a slight breeze. Now the clouds have totally moved in, and it's starting to rain. I thought there'd be some strong winds bringing in the storm, but no, it's just tiptoeing in.

One reason I enjoy watching the weather so much is it brings us together - what I see today will probably come to your house in a day or two. As my snow leaves here I will look at the weather in the midwest to see how it works out in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Oklahoma. I'm not sure that our weather does anything in New Hampshire or Florida, but I always give it a thought.

It has been a beautiful fall, but I'm ready for a change. The ground is so warm, it's not going to stick on the roads much, and I don't have anywhere to drive to, anyway.

Here is my new enclosure for the top of our water well. It's made from one of those coolers that Omaha Steaks ships their products in, lined with fiberglass insulation. A friend brought this cooler up here a couple of years ago, so I guess I'm glad we let it take up space in the garage all that time.

I'm thinking of replacing the bungee cords with a rope because I don't know how well they will stand the weather.

I'm glad your fall has been better than your summer and your yard started to perk up. It would be a worry for everything to struggle so much in the heat and drought and then go into the cold season without ever blooming.

Today was 86. By Thursday, we will in the 50's and having rain. Yes, the weather on the western slope comes right on down into the plains.

I hope your area gets some drought relief this winter.

I think New Hampshire's weather starts at your place and crawls up the coast.
