Tee Shirts and Stickers and Magnets

The highway closure continues, and now that I am back in Colorado I'm experiencing it first-hand. I have to get permission to leave my home, and 48 hours' notice is required to do it. The people who grant the permission interrogate us as if we are trying to engage in a criminal act by going to the grocery store.

The tee shirts and stickers I designed are here, and I will be spending the next few months getting to where fellow inmates are available to buy them. Any profits will help fund a potluck for the canyon residents to be held this September, the fifth anniversary of the big flood that got us where we are today.

This project is the only thing cheering me up right now.

That’s pretty shocking, not being able to leave, and started me thinking that if only you had a burro or something, you could ride out and sneak past the wardens or gatekeepers or whatever they are. In fact the whole neighborhood could have a burro brigade, and rebel against the injustice by riding out all at once. Maybe the burros could kick down the barriers and all that.

If only burros or even ATVs was the solution. There's heavy equipment racing up and down the highway supposedly 24/7 so it's dangerous to venture past our driveways. I convinced the construction company they needed to check my houses while I was in Las Vegas on the basis that my neighbors would be unable to drive to my property due to we are restricted to our own property, and it would be too dangerous for them to hike over here since it involves the highway.

Now that the new cabin is done, you must be needing another big project.

You're right, it has slacked off some. There's still a few things to do over there, like re-seeding the lawn over the septic system and running irrigation pipes over there. I have to wait until we can once again receive package deliveries before I can order some of the things I need to complete the projects. Also, before we rent it out, I'm going to use the floor to tie a couple of quilts.

Hate to say it but it sounds like living in a HUD residence!

No doubt - bureaucracy often feels like fascism. Maybe the two are interchangeable.
