It all sounds so good. For some reason I'm always happy to see that you've been to the Quarterdeck. I think it's because over the years you gave it the best overall reviews. (if it's the one I'm thinking of)

Very thoughtful. And I like the idea of the cheese snack.

Allen's Car! I always get excited thinking about you having a good time driving around.

I don't know how far back the 'good' photos go, but found one of mine from that same time period that works. It's not a big deal, I thought I'd give it a try in case. I think it was a picture of Rex.

Nope, neither one worked.

One good thing about the hurricane was I spent a lot of time looking at your area via google maps and now I feel like I've been there for a visit.

I like the idea of that second jar - now I'm working up to asking my husband what label we'd put on a jar for me. I think it would be 'Ranting about politics.' And trying to think what label to put on his jar if we were to have one.

I read the book it's based on: "A Man Called Ove" a few months ago - recognized it in the few seconds of the trailer. It's one of those stories that's not long enough because the characters are likable and engaging. We recently saw him in Larry Crowne - 2011 romantic comedy with Julia Roberts, somewhat similar development of friendships, but no matter, it's always fun to watch Tom Hanks.

Jeri got a new computer early in December, had the Geek Squad set it up. When she got it home, she could barely use it to type - said it she was having trouble plugging it in, and the space bar was so stiff she had to really pound on it. I received a couple of garbled messages from her, and one seemed to say that both she and Ted had the flu. That was December 14.

Didn't hear from her for days and days and days. Finally, here came a mailed Christmas card where she said that right away when she got that computer home it became infected with the Trojan virus and she was too busy to deal with it. Her grandchildren were coming on different days for Christmas, so she was planning on doing so some cooking. Nothing about her and Ted having the flu, so I guess health-wise they are okay.

I printed off all the unread My Bloggers messages I'd sent her from December 15 when she went AWOL and mailed them to her so she knows I'm still thinking about her, but of course that's not the same as Internet communication.

Meanwhile, Mike (Fredo's husband) contacted me because he'd been trying to get in touch with Jeri - called several times and left messages, emailed, etc. A day or so later he sent me an email all happy because he'd received a hard copy Christmas card from her where she said she is 'in computer hell.' What I want to know is what she is doing about it.

She uses/used her computer for online meetings with the VA, so I'm counting on that to motivate her to get her computer functioning again, but I worry that it has taken so long.

It was 14 below here, for a couple of days and nights, before moving east. We have a problem with pine bark beetles, and 25 below for about a week would deal them a serious blow, but I'm sure we don't want it be that cold for that long - it would likewise deal us a serious blow.

That's really something that you can get such nice green peppers from a house plant.

So good to have that taken care of. I remember that feeling of relief when I looked at the NOAA images of your property and your house was still standing.

Around here, it's hard to find hefty guy crews. The younger generation doesn't seem to think occasional heavy lifting is something anyone should have to do. When my ex-renter's 27 year-old son was cleaning out the house, he and his buddy had no idea how they were going to even begin to lift a certain TV stand, much less carry it out to the truck. I had to hire a no-nonsense guy to come in and get the furniture out. He made them help him with it with the two of them picking up one end and he handled the other end by himself, and they were so pleased with themselves to have accomplished something so manly. It was like first graders who got to 'help dad' and were lavishly praised.
