Formerly Known as the Las Vegas Hilton

The Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas has been renamed 'LVH' meaning 'Las Vegas Hotel.' This has not proved to be a wise choice, because googling the name brings up every hotel in town.

Here is the Hilton's sign in 1993. At the time it was the largest sign in the world, and it was soon destroyed in a wind storm.

I was there three times 15-20 years ago. We stayed at the Flamingo. I loved it. So garish and tacky. And the sidewalks were crowded in the middle of the night. I couldn't believe it. That was when the big building boom was going on. The Mirage was just being built. I missed the whole "family" cycle.

The Mirage was the beginning of it all. It seems like every month another remnant of family-friendly is removed in favor of another over-priced nightclub.

I remember the Hilton, but I can certainly see where renaming it the "Las Vegas Hotel" was not a great PR move on someone's part.

The new name came from the investment company that owns it now - they should have talked to someone in the hotel business.
