Fish Picture

My river is thawing out today.

Icebergs are breaking off and circling around in the water trapped by ice. The roar of the river is completely muffled, so all you hear is a soft mumble coming from the open patches.

I didn't see any fish in the water that I could see, so they must be under the ice. That yellowness is water on top of the ice, and tonight it will freeze, making the ice thicker until the next warm day.

The only animal tracks in the snow are tree squirrels and a coyote or large dog, no fox, no deer, no mountain lion.

Here is a fish picture, taken in the summer. It is a brown trout.

I know you need snow and this warm winter is hard for people dependent on
the run offs from the mountains. The brown trout is so pretty.

I hope we get some good snow in the next two months, but I don't think it'll be enough to catch us up. Every bit helps.

Do you ice skate?

No. When I was a kid the river ice would get a lot thicker - three feet in that area of the pictures, and sometimes it would be slick enough for sliding. Right now it's got a lot of snow on it. We've had this little warm spell and are headed into a cold snap so maybe the ice will build up again.
