Sea Change

A few days ago I had an epiphany "Don't sweat the small stuff," "Don't live in fearful anticipation of what may come," "Accept whatever happens with equanimity." That meant letting events good and bad roll over me as I swayed like a strand of kelp in the ocean as circumstances washed by with the tides.

I won't be undone by silly things like a roll of two sided tape that irritated me to the point of a cussword--I threw the whole roll in the trash--immediate serenity.

Or when compiling my beads stash, I knocked an entire drawer onto the floor and a thousand loose teeny beads went all over. Well, since I hadn't touched them for months, what was I missing? Why was I hanging on to them? Instead of trying to pick them up, I vacuumed them up. No problem; let them go. Peace.

I finally realized it was pointless to argue with my best friend over ridiculous stuff and accept her as she is, just as she has to accept me. People don't change, you have to take them the way they are and not expect them to be the way YOU want them to be. It took me so long to come to that mountain top.

Last week when I had to speak to one of those outsourced workers in India about a product problem, I was so calm and nice, and noticed she appreciated it. Gosh, I hope this new attitude lasts.
