Sandra Bullock looked terrific, and won best actress. I hardly recognized her with long sleek hair, and a gorgeous simple gown--and she wore red lipstick! I hope the monochrome looks disappears and women aren't afraid of using lipstick again. Jeff Bridges won best actor; good for him.
Molly Ringwald was a presenter, and talk about unrecognizable! She looked sleek too, with long straight hair and a beautiful gown, but nothing like I remember her.
The actress who played "Precious" in the title role (and has an unpronounable name) did not win despite the hype that she might. But Monique, who played her mother won best supporting actress.
The "Precious" actress wore an unfortunate choice; a blue gown that was wayyyy too low cut and threatened to spill her large breasts out if she leaned over. That is one big woman--I estimate she weighs 300-to 350 lbs or more. Monique is a big big woman too, but she wore a nicely fitted gown.
Avatar, a movie that has supposedly has made more money than any movie in history (I can't believe that) came up short at the Oscars. James Cameron was on NPR and other media venues touting his creation but at the Oscars it only won some technical awards, not the biggie of best picture. I see why. Avatar is about some blue catlike creatures with an odd click language--Ben Stiller came onstage made up as one of the creatures, and he looked scary.
Cameron couldn't overcome these facts: There was no best actor or actress to pin a label on, and I can't imagine this movie seeming fresh in 10 or 20 years--or less. I mean it's not a classic like Casablanca after all.
