This morning the NPR show, Michael Feldman's "What Do You Know" was broadcast live from Biloxi Mississippi on the Coast at the Saenger Theater. I should have went to that show. I listen to What Do You Know every weekend. I'd like to have been in the audience to play the quiz. I'd like to have been able to call in to the show to play the quiz.
The phone number to call in was busy the entire 2 hours of the show, so scratch that.
One of Feldman's guests was the owner of Mary Mahoney's seafood restaurant. He embarrassed Mississippi by telling one lame one liner joke after another, even as Feldman was trying to nudge him off the stage so another guest could be introduced.
The next guest was the mayor of Biloxi who gave Feldman a key to the city,
Next guest was Jimmy Buffet's sister Lulu who owns a restaurant in MOBILE Alabama, for Pete's sake. Her parents were from Mississippi, but to have a guest from Alabama-- why?
There were a lot of Mississippians he could have talked to--or about--the oil spill, Katrina recovery, the casinos, blues musicians from the Delta--the hurricane hunter planes out of Keesler AFB--the art colony at Ocean Springs--the show was disappointing to me because he chose Lulu Buffet instead. Her brother got rich and famous for singing "Margaritaville" and she is semi-famous by association.
One thing he was coached in and got right was how to properly pronounce city names-- Biloxi is "B'
lux'e"
Pass Christian is "Pass Christy ann" Gautier is "Go shay" etc.
Sorry I didn't go in person the see the show though.
