Blogger "grumpy," you are more enlightened than I supposed--I am surprised and pleased to find that out. Yes, I know that licenses that hunters and fishermen purchase help to maintain wildlife habitats, and that's a good thing. I am not against hunters harvesting "Bambi" as deer are so numerous hunting is necessary.
Now as to global warming which I intuit you think is hogwash, just let me say this: Anyone who gives it a minute's thought must realize that in the last 100 years, the pumping out of billions of tons of pollutants from autos and factories indubitably must have an effect on our climate. Solar flares and natural cycles of heating and cooling of the Earth has always caused cycles of change on our planet, but the addition of so much carbon emissions can't be discounted.
Yesterday morning I heard a segment on NPR about a tribe of Eskimos in the Arctic who live on permafrost which is melting and the soil being washed away by the sea. This has never occurred in their history, and the government wants to relocate them before they are literally washed away. In the South Pacific, some islands have been inundated and inhabitants removed to other islands. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know something is happening.
I'll tell you what burns me up, and I get grumpy about it. There seems to be a frenzy down here to cut down every damn tree, pollute every river, trash every square inch of land without so much as a thought about tomorrow. My ancestors were Choctaws--I have a viseral connection to the land. Maybe this liberalist President Obama we have now will be a more environmentally activist president than the dodo Bush. I voted for Obama and wish him well.
So I am passionate about the environment--don't get me started on politics and religion. Thanks for listening.
