After looking for a long time, I finally found one of those indoor outdoor cheap-o rugs--you know the ones with the backing that flakes off when you wash it. I like to put one of these thin cheap rugs on the carport every year--they get dirty and only last about a year. The rug helps absorb oil that may drip out of the car; besides I can't stand the look of bare concrete.
One year I found one with blue and green aqua striping, and with the white painted ceiling of the open carport overhead, I would put my easel out there and paint and feel as if I were at sea. A feeling I loved and enjoyed. WELL! They don't make these "room sized" rugs 12ft. by 12 ft. anymore.; one that would almost totally cover the carport floor. NO, they are 8 by 10 little things that cost the same as the big rugs used to--$20.00--but I suppose the shrinking economy has shrunk the rugs too.
Yesterday a friend came by and I got her to help me put down my new rug--she lifted up the old carpet to throw it away and a black field mouse ran out! It zoomed at light speed out from under her feet and past my foot in a millisecond. We were both screaming EEK! EEK! If it had been a cobra we couldn't have been more upset. Why is it we womenfolk hate mice and meeses and other little varmints?Â
My shack is surrounded by woods so I know I have these little visitors but I can't stand the thought. I'm gonna call an exterminator plus put out D-Con out on the carport. There is a feral white male cat living in the woods across the road who comes up at night to sleep under the car--you'd think it would eat the mice--Nooo, all the cat does is leave male funk on the undercarriage of my car and white hair all over the rug. If he gets hold of some D-Con I'm not gonna cry about it.
