Saw the movie "Biloxi Blues" on TCM the other day--written by Neil Simon, about his time at an Army camp at Biloxi Mississippi.
This morning TCM was showing "The Reivers" about some grifters in Mississippi, written by William Faulkner. There were some mountains in the background, California mountains, where the movie was shot. Mississippi ain't got no mountains..I dislike a movie with discrepancies like that. Why Mississippi and its subjects should be so interesting I don't know.
(Of course the paper's headline a few days ago was "Mississippi Is The Most Religious State!" That tells you something.)

Well, on another subject, I saw a recipe in the paper for butterscotch pudding with caramel sauce, and I just have to tell y'all about it because it was the longest recipe I have ever seen. Assuming there were five words to a line, I estimate that recipe was over 650-700 words long, the length of an entire column and part of another. You've gotta be kidding!

Another subject: I wore my favorite pair of moccasins to the store yesterday, just to run one little errand. These mocs are so old and comfy, they have conformed to the shape of my feet--I just love 'em--they have beaded vamps and fringe. A couple of years ago I took them to a shoe repair shop and the cobbler put a patch over a small hole that had worn out in the leather at the end of my big toe.

The patch wore out but I just couldn't throw 'em away. So yesterday I plastered over the toe hole with a piece of duct tape and wore them to the store--and of course I saw everybody I know. I don't know why I felt embarrassed--it's nobody's business after all. So I'm gonna wear 'em till the duct tape wears out!
