Casino, movie starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone, released in 1995, four and a half star rating out of five. A bookie and his pal make a Las Vegas casino an empire.
If you like The Sopranos, Goodfellas, and the Godfather, you'll like Casino. I did!
De Niro plays "Ace, The Jew"-- Pesci plays Nicky, and Stone plays Ginger, Ace's wife. This movie is about Vegas back when the Mob ran things. Back in the days when men like Ace wore a red suit with a red tie, yellow suits, green suits, and a sharkskin orange suit with an orange shirt and tie that must have been considered "cool."
In one scene, Nicky has a woman smuggle diamonds in her beehive hairdo through customs. Once they're safe he shakes her hair over a towel and diamonds fall out.
I must say I never thought of Sharon Stone as much of an actress, but as Ginger, she pulled out all the stops and showed off her acting chops, and no one could have done it better.
Ginger, an erratic, high strung Vegas gal chews up the scenery in every scene. In a disagreement with Ace, she rams her Mercedes into his car over and over, then hysterical, goes to their safety deposit box and crams money into a garbage bag. Nothing she did made sense; she was a loose cannon in the Mob that helped bring them down.
This is a rip roaring, full speed ahead movie I enjoyed even better than The Godfather.
