Saw Oprah Winfrey's show Monday afternoon, and it was devoted to all things from the sixties. This retro rage is fueled in part by the success of "Mad Men" the AMC show that keeps winning awards. ( I found out it's called Mad Men, after ad men on Madison Avenue.) Oprah had the star of Mad Men and his wife on, Jon Hamm (who is so suavely handsome), and the actress who plays his wife, January Jones.
The audience was all dressed up in 60's style, the little hats and white gloves --and hairdos that I'm still stuck in! I thought Coco Chanel fashions and Jackie Kennedy with her pillbox hats were so chic then and still love that look now. It's coming back into style--I think it's great. Maybe wearing lipstick instead of the monochrome look will be in style again.
Oprah even had commercials from the 60's, and a was wearing a bright fuschia 60's style dress made for her by the costume designer on Mad Men. She commented to wear those styles you had to be girdled up--do I remember those days--ouch! She could barely sit down. (As an aside, not to be snide, but Oprah looked bigger than I've ever seen her before--super large.)
